A Cold Day And An Unexpected Blessing…

Quick Monday note. Thankfulness…. I have a lot to be thankful for. We ALL have a lot to be thankful for. I regret to say that I do not recognize this enough. The last few days I have been reflecting a lot. I am truly blessed in many areas of my life…my faith, my family and my career.

I ask each of you that you would reflect and think upon the blessings in your life. Let me tell you a quick story….then reflect, and take action. PAY the blessings forward. Pass this post on, like and share. Let us all be a blessing.

I was traveling home from a business meeting in Austin TX. I stopped off at a world famous Czechoslovakian restaurant. There was an older veteran in line picking up a togo order for himself and his family. I said hello, thanked him for his service, which started a conversation. We spoke of the weather, God and country. (If you ever have been in conversation with me I like to speak of meaningful things, things of depth, things of significance.)  As we were speaking I noticed the weathered lines of wisdom deep in the mans brow. A couple of scars were on his hands, as well as a tattoo. Though the years had aged this man, his eyes had a brilliant sparkle for his country and his family. I wondered how many people out there had the same sparkle for their family, their country.

I decided right there that I wanted to be a blessing to this man. It wasn’t much, but I moved ahead in line and signaled to the checkout/server that I wanted to buy the veterans dinner. The young man nodded to let me know he understood. When the veteran was ready to pay he stood with wallet in hand at the cashier. When informed that his dinner was paid for he stepped back, looked around in awe. He asked who paid for his meal. The young man who I signaled earlier started to look down the line. As our eyes met I shook my head no.

He then told the veteran that the customer wanted to remain anonymous. The man looked bewildered….but then started to smile. He seemed to almost skip out of the restaurant. Tomorrow I have volunteered with my family to serve the needy in the downtown area. We are going to be His Hands and Feet and serve the less fortunate. This is the kind of things that will give you real joy and fulfillment. Pay It Forward.
